J-Popcon 2013 to host two cosplay shows

Oct. 17, 2012

The grand cosplay show has always been a highlight of J-Popcon. In the later years, the cosplay show has been a qualification round for several international competitions as well. Because of the prize and prestige associated with the show, the number of applicants have increased significantly over the last few years. We wish to give as many people as possible a chance to perform in front of an audience and we would also like to accomodate those who cannot or do not want to compete for qualification to international competitions.

To meet the massive interest in J-Popcon's cosplay, we have chosen to follow a model that has been used with success at conventions around the world, and split it into two large shows for J-Popcon 2013. One will follow all requirements for the international competitions and the winners will qualify for World Cosplay Summit, European Cosplay Gathering and EuroCosplay. The other show will see competitors face off for J-Popcon's traditional prizes.

The qualifying round is open for participants who are at least 18 years old. J-Popcon's traditional show is open to participants who meet the required minimum age of 16. The rules for the two shows are otherwise identical this year. It is possible to participate in both shows.

We are very excited to try out this new format and we hope it will be a great success.

The rules for the two cosplay shows are now available. Signups for the two shows will open later this year.
