Community Corner is a staple at J-Popcon and in 2023, it's once again a part of the convention. Here, we welcome a bunch of Danish clubs and organisations who all strengthen the community that we, who love Japan and Japanese popular culture, are a part of.
One of these clubs is Copenhagen's and Frederiksberg's Kendoklub, Kilikai! Kendo is a Japanese form of martial arts where you use a bamboo sword to fight. The club describe themselves like this:
"Kilikai is a friendly and fun Kendo Club, where you can imagine you are a samurai or a part of your favourite anime. When you bow in the door, it is like travelling to Japan, maybe even a sports manga. We train hard, smile, laugh, sweat, and support each other. There is good room to get to know your physical limits and push them, you have the opportunity to speak Japanese, to wear oldfashioned Japanese clothes, find new friends and a passion for sports, especially for those who thought that they were never good at exercise-based training. We are children and adults, men, women, and nonbinary people, thin, fat, weak, strong, all different kinds, but we all love Japanese popular culture and to swing a bamboo sword!"
