Two manga-ka and educators visits J-Popcon 2014

J-Popcon proudly presents the two teachers on manga and Japanese culture:

 

Otsuka, Eiji

Otsuka-sensei is one of the most prominent manga writers and editors in Japan. He is a Professor at the International Research Center for Japanese Studies at Aicha Prefectural University and a trained anthropologist, where he writes about geek and otaku culture in Japan.

 

He has published several manga comics translated to English, and is the author of these:

- Madara

- MPD Psycho

- The Kurosagi Corpse Delivery Service

 

Meet Otsuka-sensei in the workshop 'Application of film method to manga drawing', where you learn how manga panel layout and method of film layout is similar, using an famous classic manga work of Shotaro Ishinomori. You can have an experience of getting creative advices of manga layout by professional manga artists and editors. This project is supported by The Japanese National Research Fund.

 

Nakagawa Yuzuru

Nakagawa-sensei is an Associate Professor at the Japan Institute of the Moving Image, he teaches manga at an academic level and is active in the doujinshi scene (amateur publishing), both as a participant and volunteer at Comiket, the largest doujinshi fair in Japan.

 

You can meet Nakagawa-sensei in the workshop 'Drawing Lines: How to draw manga style illustration using computer', where he will explain how Line (Inking) is one of the most important parts of Japanese manga and anime drawing. During the workshop you will also gain an understanding of the historical development of Japanese manga and anime from traditional inking to the present use of computer methods.

 

Nagakawa-sensei is also giving an lecture on doujinshi culture of Japan and its special relation to copyright laws and licensing.
