J-Popcon are proud to present our new partnering event and last-minute addition of the Danish Cosplay Championship: China International Cartoon & Animation Festival and their cosplay event: China Grand Cosplay Awards.

China Grand Cosplay Awards (CGCA) is one of the main activities during the China International Cartoon & Animation Festival (CICAF), the largest festival and fair for the cartoon and animation industry in China. CICAF is located in Hangzhou (approx. two hours from Shanghai). In 2012 CICAF had more than two million participants.

This year, CICAF hosts an international cosplay event for the first time and Denmark is one of the very few invited countries. Since this is the first time CGCA is held, the pressure on participants is not as high as is usually the case for the more established international competitions. The primary goal is to participate, have fun, enjoy the experience and show China what Danish cosplayers are worth!

The view on cosplay is very different in China, where the focus is on an accurate and faithful representation of the chosen character, rather than exciting and lively stage shows. It is not uncommon for costumes to be made by teams or people other than the participants, but great respect is paid to those who know both how to make costumes and how to act.

The qualification will be part of the Danish Cosplay Championship during the Saturday and all two-man teams will be taken into consideration if they so choose. The rules for CGCA are not as restrictive as those for our other partner events, giving more room for innovative ideas for the final in China!
