From Up On Poppy Hill, the latest feature movie from Studio Ghibli is coming to Denmark. The movie will premiere on March 21st 2013 in theaters across the country. But you can see it a little sooner in Grand Teatret with J-Popcon.
The year is 1963. Japan is preparing for the Olympic Games which are to be held in Tokyo the next year. Games that in many ways marks Japan's transition from the post-war period to the modern times. In the coastal city of Yokoham, we meet the teenagers Shun and Umi. He is the editor of the school newspaper and very popular with the girls. She is working hard at home, helping with housekeeping and cooking. But destiny has other plans and no matter how different Umi and Shun may seem, they meet anyway when a project to modernize the school ignites a spark that would turn into the student riots.
On Saturday, March 16th at 10 am, during J-Popcon 2013, Grand Teatret will host a special screening of From Up On Poppy Hill, just for participants at J-Popcon. Tickets are only DKK 50,- but you must hurry if you wat one. There are only 260 seats. The movie features the original Japanese audio with Danish subtitles. From Up On Poppy Hill (Kokuriko-zaka kara) is directed by Goro Miyazaki, with screenplay by his legendary father Hayao Miyazaki. Together they tell a charming and tragic story of young people finding their roots after a childhood marked by war and losses. From up on Poppy Hill is based on the gripping 1980 manga by Tetsuro Sayama and Chizuru Takahashis and takes a nostalgic look at a period when the preservation of history, for better or worse, was forced to take a back seat to progress as a new Japan was created.
